Sir, - May I, through your newspaper, offer my heartfelt and sincere gratitude to Messrs Eoghan Harris and John Bruton for assisting in the election of Mary McAleese as President of Ireland.

Their campaign sought to elect a president of the 26 counties. Mrs McAleese's election however, has copper-fastened Article 2 of the Irish Constitution: "The national territory consists of the whole island of Ireland, its islands and the territorial seas."

The fact that President McAleese is from the North signals that the tide is turning against the revisionists and partitionists. I wish the new President well in her task of representing the whole of the Irish nation for the next seven years. - Yours, etc.,

Mark Urwin,
