Sir, - Fintan Lambe (December 13th) is quite right in asking Irish publicans to put their money where their mouths are with respect to drinking and driving. For a number of years now all pubs in Guernsey have offered free soft drinks to a group's designated driver - you simply flash your car keys at the start of the night.
The scheme does work very well and we do not hear of anyone ripping off publicans - after all, how many Cokes can one drink on a night out?
Merry Christmas to you all.- Yours, etc.,
