Sir, - I read Mr C. J. O'Driscoll's letter (June 6th) with amazement. It is similar in content to that of Mr Barry McHugh (April 19th).

Could either of these gentlemen define what is meant by factual evidence or "historical fact". What is historical fact apart from experience? Is science historical? Is fact reality?

When one dwells on Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, historical fact and fictual evidence have little meaning.

The story of Christ's life on earth is generally well described in the Gospels and Epistles. The content of it may or may not have been tampered with, to some extent, yet the narrative is quite unique. It was written by a few during very hostile times towards Christianity; it was rejected by some. But we would agree that the story is a very unique one and makes a great deal of sense. All that we have is our faith and that, in itself, is a mysterious attribute given to any man.
