Sir, - I, like countless readers of The Irish Times, have no interest in reading about Ms. Michelle Rocca's frantic bedroom frolics in some stud farm! Neither am I interested in the doings of Ms. Maura Geoghegan-Quinn's son. As well as being uninteresting and unnecessary journalism, such type of notoriety gives such people a false sense of their own importance. We simply are not interested!
I feel that newspapers, such as yours, have a responsibility in this regard. It would appear that this type of reportage has played into the hands of Ms. Geoghegan-Quinn, to allow her to make a career change and, strongest of ironies, host a radio programme, despite her accusations of media intrusion into her family's private life!
If newspapers would not continue to give such high-profile coverage to what would appear to be fodder for the prominent amongst us, then, as an important vehicle of communication, it could concentrate on more important issues. Where are your priorities? - Yours etc
