Madam, – Your correspondent (Carmel Frawley, February 14th) may rest assured that there is a good precedent in this country for filling potholes ahead of the arrival of a British monarch. The first ever use of a motor car for a state visit by the British royal family was during the visit of Edward and Alexander to Ireland. It is recorded that, ahead of the royal car, teams of men were sent out through Connemara to fill and level all the potholes and ruts on the road to Kylemore with crushed stone. – Yours, etc,
