Madam, – I agree with Carmel Frawley (February 14th) and would ask the OPW if it has a plan to do anything about the appalling condition of Chesterfield Avenue (main road) in the Phoenix Park.

Travelling on this road is like an obstacle course at the best of times, but made worse after the freezing weather in December, and no work seems underway to repair it. I would guess that 80 per cent of visitors to Dublin will take a visit to the Phoenix Park and either hire a bike or take the sightseeing bus tour.

The main road now looks like a symbol of our collapsed economy and the intervention of the IMF.

What must visitors think at seeing one of our main tourist routes in the capital city in this awful condition?
