Sir, - The intimidatory tactics used by striking workers during the current Ryanair dispute, culminating in the closure of Dublin Airport, and the failure of the Government or Opposition to condemn such intimidation are reminiscent of the bad old labour relations days of the 1970s.

Far from condemning the intimidation of non-striking workers and passengers, politicians have fanned the flames of the dispute by their ill-judged and onesided comments - and all for the short-term advantage of a few votes in the local by-election. Imagine the impact of this weekend's aggressive picketing and travel chaos at Dublin Airport on any visiting industrialist or tour operator.

We seem determined to return to yesteryear and kill or seriously wound our promising Celtic Tiger by turning the economy into a tame, unionised pussycat. - Yours, etc.,
