Madam, - I wholeheartedly agree with Michael McHugh (September 14th). The only people who should be allowed to open their lungs at All-Ireland Finals in Croke Park are the supporters themselves, whether for the National Anthem or the ensuing cheering and chanting that is part of these passionate occasions.
This should rule out soloists of all kinds: (1) the fruity professional on hire to lead the singing; but also (2) the conquering captain's cringe-making speech. - Yours, etc,
