Sir, - Your Washington correspondent's article of July 15th on the Trapp family implied some ulterior motive for the non-appearance for some years of The Sound of Music in Austrian cinemas. There was, in fact, an excellent, locally made film on the life of the Trapp family, with the wellknown Austrian actor Hans
Holt as the hero Captain von Trapp, shown in Austria in the late 1950s, years before The Sound of Music was produced. The reason for the delayed appearance of the latter film in Austria probably lay in an innate distaste - now overcome -
for the sugary-sweet kitsch typical of such American musicals. - Yours, etc.,
