Madam, - In response to Gerry Crosbie's letter of January 5th about the Taoiseach's salary, I have this to say: You simply can't compare the leader of a country to the chief executive of a company. A politician is supposed to sign up for the job not for personal profit but for the benefit of the nation.
Business and politics are two very different things - or at least they should be - and bandying around terms such as "Ireland, Inc" is a grave misinterpretation. The job of our elected leaders is to work to make the country a better place, not simply pocket any money the job throws at them.
Besides, a salary of €252,000 is more than enough for anyone to live comfortably. - Yours, etc,
MANUS LENIHAN,
