Madam, - A year ago you published a letter by me regarding the burning of the Tricolour on some July 11th bonfires in Northern Ireland.

This year, bonfires were still "crowned" with a Tricolour for burning. It's an appalling situation which highlights a number of anomalies.

The Orange order is trying to put its best foot forward to encourage a more inclusive festival of participation. The Irish Government has approved a grant for a subsidiary company to distribute funding for the Orange Order in the Border area.

Both developments are to be welcomed.

However can either party not put some pressure on the organisers of bonfire celebrations to acknowledge that the right to celebrate incurs a responsibility to respect this nation's Tricolour? - Yours, etc,
