Madam, - Are you aware that Kevin Myers has stated in print certain ideas which must be contrary to The Irish Times editorial policy (Oct 29th)? Worse, by being fair he has set an enlightened precedent to Irish journalists and writers in every area of the national media, many of whom are trained to believe that the (literary) scourging of Catholics is the mainstay of their profession.
Worse, he infers that Europe is being overrun by Islam and that not one person of political substance and of reasonable disposition within the European Parliament has had the courage to question its significance. Worse, he implies that the European Parliament is substantially made up of persons who do not understand that there is a difference between democracy and liberal totalitarianism.
In the name of God (or Allah, if it so pleases, Madam) can't you shut him up? Or at least tell him, in keeping with "liberal" trends across Europe, that Mr Myers will be sacked from his post if ever he tells the truth or is honest enough to state openly his beliefs again. - Yours, etc.,
MICHAEL CUSSEN, Holycross, Thurles.
