EOGHAN WHELAN,
A Chara, - How ironic, yet sadly predictable, that on the day Iarnród Éireann increases its fares, the 10.30 a.m. Enterprise from Belfast, rather than arriving the usual 10 or 15 minutes late at Clarke Station, Dundalk, did not arrive at all. Exhibiting the same concern for their passengers' schedules as they do for their own, the staff did not announce that the Enterprise had broken down outside of Newry until 50 minutes after the scheduled departure of the train.
Over an hour after the scheduled departure of the train a bus arrived at the station to convey onwards to Drogheda and Connolly stations those passengers who cared to hazard the journey.
Matching their performances in similar circumstances in the past, staff kept passengers in the dark until they had arranged for this bus transfer, thus limiting their chances of having to deal with any irate passengers, whilst simultaneously limiting the passengers chances of making alternative travel arrangements or of informedly changing their plans for the day.
We're not there yet, but will we ever get there? - Yours, etc.,
EOGHAN WHELAN, Dundalk, Co Louth
