Madam, – Paul Delaney (March 16th) asks, “Now that we’re no longer living in clover (indeed these are truly austere times) might we get to see that once- esteemed national emblem (the seamróg) gradually regain its rightful place in the hearts of the good denizens of this green and impecunious land?”

Might I suggest that what is in the hearts of the good denizens as a symbol of today’s Ireland is not the seamróg, but the sham rogues who got us into the mess. – Yours, etc,

Madam, – Under the heading of accountability and given that the main role of the coalition Government is to increase employment, should we not ask our Ministers who travel across the globe for the St Patrick’s Day celebrations to report back on exactly what they have achieved? – Yours, etc,

Madam, – It seems ironic to be celebrating a Catholic saint this week and almost unbelievable that we were once known as “the land of saints and scholars”. I feel that we are more appropriately “the land of taints and spinners”. – Yours, etc,
