Sir, – The Irish Government should request the immediate replacement of Theresa Villiers as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland because of her public advocacy of Brexit.
Through this advocacy, Ms Villiers has abandoned the political evenhandedness required of her position through aligning herself with the pro-Brexit DUP in opposition to all the other pro-EU parties in Northern Ireland.
Furthermore she has rejected her obligation to consolidate and embed the collaborative constitutional arrangements for this island agreed in 1998 in favour of a more divided Ireland, with part outside the EU and part inside, and with all the inconvenience this would cause for citizens and enterprises North and South.
