THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX

MIKE NORRIS,

MIKE NORRIS,

Sir, - Most roadsides in Dublin city are now marked with either white boxes or yellow lines. These indicate, respectively, metred parking and parking prohibited. Now the yellow lines need frequent repainting, perhaps largely due to the erosion caused by cars parking on them. I suggest a simple change in the protocol: parking should be permitted only where explicitly indicated, by the presence of the white boxes.

This would save the time and money involved in repainting yellow lines on roads, but could result in some job losses. So, in order to preserve the skills and the jobs of the line-painters, an extension of the new parking regulations would allow them to paint yellow lines on illegally parked cars. - Yours, etc.,

MIKE NORRIS, Cabinteely Green, Dublin 18.
