Sir, – Joe Mulvaney, describing himself as a practising Catholic, shares his hopes for a “Catholic Spring” in which Rome relinquishes control of the Irish church, priests marry, women are ordained and what he views as “medieval” laws regarding sexuality and contraception are ditched (December 22nd).
I too am a practising Catholic, albeit one who agrees with unmarried priests (I can’t see how the alternative will work). I am humble enough to accept that as a woman I could never be ordained. I view the church’s teaching on sexuality as beautiful, not negative, and I fully embrace the church’s prohibition on contraception, as evidenced by having had six children in seven years of marriage.
Would Mr Mulvaney see room for me in his “Catholic Spring”? – Yours etc,
