Sir, – The Russian ambassador to Ireland has publicly stated that he is open for discussions on the supply of the Sputnik V vaccine to Ireland. This vaccine has a proven record in 30 countries, with an efficacy over 90 per cent.
The well-respected Lancet medical journal has supported this vaccine following an advanced clinical trial in February.
It is simply not good enough for the Government to sit back and do nothing while hiding behind Nphet and waiting for the approval of the European Medicines Agency.
The current shortage of vaccines needs to be resolved. Now is time for the Government to enter into discussions and place orders for the Sputnik vaccine and take action on behalf of the people who elected them. – Yours, etc,
