Sir, – Those who are suggesting that Ireland introduce some form of honours list might do well to reflect that, were such an institution in existence, we might be looking at the following recipients of honours: Sir Seán Quinn , Sir Bertie Ahern, Sir Michael Fingleton and Lord Haughey of Kinsealy (to mention but a few). – Yours, etc,

DAVE ROBBIE,

Seafield Crescent,

Booterstown,

Co Dublin.

Sir, – W Arthur Duthie’s assertion that there is no honours system operational in Ireland is incorrect (January 3rd). We have two in fact. They are called the queen’s new year’s honours list and the queen’s birthday honours list. Recent Irish recipients include Harry Crosbie, Michael Colgan, Bono, Bob Geldof, Daniel O’Donnell and the Corrs. – Yours, etc,

TOM COOPER,

Delaford Lawn,

Knocklyon,

Dublin 16 .
