Sir, – On Monday on the Dart, the driver stopped the train to come back to my carriage and ask an elderly passenger at what station she would be alighting. He explained that now that he knew, she was to take her time getting off the train as he would ensure he would not leave her station until she had safely got off. Clearly he had observed her getting on a little unsteadily.
As the train resumed its journey the mood in the carriage was like that on a holiday excursion as passengers, many who were visiting from overseas, smiled and engaged in conversations in praise of the driver’s action. I was so proud to witness this Dubliner prioritising concern to alleviate worry on the part of one of his passengers over a few seconds of delay for the train. – Yours, etc,
ORLA FARRELL,
