Sir, - As DART travellers will be aware from the tattered, handwritten notices on display at stations, timetables have not been available now for six months or more.
While I am not aware of any official explanation for the inordinate delay in producing a timetable, I suspect it has something to do with the fiasco surrounding the attempt to extend the service to Greystones and Malahide.
Bearing in mind the time that has elapsed (and is likely to elapse) without any timetable and the fact that it was, in any event, largely fictional in character, would there be merit now in deciding to abandon the idea of a timetable altogether?
In that way the powers that be in Iarnrod Eireann could solve the age-old problem of getting the trains to run on time. Publish no timetable and, hey presto, every train is on time. - Yours, etc.,
