Madam, - There is nothing remarkable about Time magazine nominating George W. Bush as Man of the Year (Letters, December 22nd).
The designation is the person who "for better or worse, has most influenced events in the preceding year". To prove the point, nominees have included A. Hitler (1938), J. Stalin (1939 and 1942) and Ayatollah Khomeini (1979). Also honoured have been Mahatma Gandhi (1930) and Martin Luther King (1963).
I wonder in which category G.W. Bush will be remembered. - Yours, etc.,
STEPHEN LALOR, South Leinster Street, Dublin 2.
