I am surprised by your populist call to “buy Irish” (Editorial, September 7th) for no other reason than the fact that guaranteed Irish products inject revenues to Irish businesses, regardless of the business’s competitiveness.
Should we avoid buying foreign goods that may be of higher quality or lower price? Bertie Ahern and “unpatriotic” Newry shopping trips spring to mind.
I would suggest that Irish businesses improve their product offering, thereby creating a sustainable advantage over competitors, whether they are foreign or not. – Yours, etc,
