TONY McCLAFFERTY,
Sir, - In relation to the new car toll rate of €1.30 at West-Link, Patrick Ryall (January 7th) quoted verbatim from our customer circular, Euro Changeover at the East-Link and West-Link Toll Bridges, as follows: "Please note that the West-Link car toll rate of €1.30 is not the Euro conversion of the existing £1 toll rate. It is the toll rate agreed with the National Roads Authority in December 1999".
He omitted the next sentence: "Please note that the West-link car toll rate of €1.30 is not the Euro conversion of the existing £1 toll rate. It is the toll rate agreed with the National Roads Authority in December 1999 for the financing of the €23-million second West-Link bridge and has been approved in accordance with the Roads Act 1993".
The new car toll rate at West-Link relates to the infrastructure investment by National Toll Roads plc and not to the introduction of the euro.
In relation to the euro, it should be noted that the 10 toll rates affected by the euro changeover, at both East-Link and West-Link, have been rounded down. - Yours, etc.,
TONY McCLAFFERTY,
National Tolls Road plc.,
