Madam, - I refer to Kevin Myers's recent Irishman's Diary about a visit to Northern Ireland.

I have to say that on certain matters (e.g. poor selection of restaurants and facilities) he has a valid point. No doubt the Northern Ireland Tourist Board will take this on board.

He is, however, completely off the mark in criticising development along the north-east coastline. In fact, planning controls are far more strictly enforced in Northern Ireland than they are here in the Republic, where large tracts of the coastline have been obliterated with horrendous bungalows and holiday villages. - Yours, etc.,
