Sir, – Although a frequent visitor to Ireland, my last visit in July will probably be just that, my last visit. I love the country and culture, but the way the authorities have chosen to collect the tolls as one drives through these areas are totally ridiculous.
One has to have computer access and download an app to even pay, and it all must be done within a 24-hour timeframe.
I spent a couple of hours just trying to log on to do this. After asking for help from a friendly hotel receptionist, it was finally accomplished. However, after returning home to Florida, I received a letter from the car rental firm, informing me that I still owed a toll, and low and behold they took the liberty of charging my credit card to the tune of $12.50 for a toll. An administration fee of €7.50 was added, for one lousy trip it seems to think I did not pay for. I did, and I have a credit card receipt showing I did. – Yours, etc,
MICHAEL W DONAHUE,
Richey,
Florida.
