Towns and catchphrases

Sir, – Many years ago I worked with a man, who when wishing to describe someone whom he disliked or whose values he did not share, would refer to him as “a real Borris-in-Ossory type of fellow”. Even then I felt this was a something of a slur on this quiet and inoffensive midland town. – Yours, etc,
