Sir, - With regard to the article on traffic calming in Ranelagh (February 6th) it is mentioned that such traffic calming measures are widely used on the continent.

It is perhaps worth noting that before such measures are implemented on the continent, it is ensured that the main through routes which the traffic should be using are kept clear, allowing the traffic to pass through them easily. This they achieve by enforcing the relevant parking laws. Would it be too much to ask that the same be done in Dublin? Ranelagh village is a prime example. - Yours etc.,
