TRAVELLERS AND THE LAW

MARY M. WALSHE,

MARY M. WALSHE,

Madam, - Last Tuesday I was ashamed of myself and of my settled people. We used our power to evict Travellers from the corner of Kill Avenue and Rose Park, Dun Laoghaire, with the help of electronic lifting gear and indeed the gardaí. Their touring caravans were to be put in the pound. Where would the Travellers themselves go?

Our ancestors were evicted by unfair landlords and now, 150 years on, we the settled people are doing the same. We don't want a Travellers' site near us, so we get them moved on and on. If enough residents do that, there will be nowhere for them to go. - Yours, etc.,

MARY M. WALSHE,
