Sir, - The Government has quite rightly opposed the re-processing of plutonium at Sellafield because of the potential danger it poses to Ireland in the event of cancer-causing radiation leaks. Yet at the same the Government is pushing ahead with its plans to incinerate 1.4 million tonnes of plastic and paper per annum, creating 420,000 tonnes of ash each year which is laced with Dioxin, a cancer-causing toxin.

It may be popular to be opposed to Sellafield, but it's not consistent if we at the same time we go ahead and build cancer-causing incinerators. - Yours, etc.,

Peter Butler, Kilcolgan, Galway.
