Sir, – Any child with a smartphone can get access to the most vile pornography within seconds. This new development of such immediate, easy and free access to pornography has the potential to grossly distort attitudes of developing children to one another and to their sexuality.
It is deeply ironic that so much time and money is spent by the Irish Film Classification Office in an attempt to protect children from harm, when, within seconds children can access extremely explicit and potentially damaging material online. It is time to regulate such websites on the internet.
For example, when setting up an online betting account in the UK one has to provide proof of age before access is granted. All pornography websites should be regulated in the same manner. – Yours, etc,
