Sir, Time and again I have heard unionist politicians allege that, when they came to Dublin for talks in 1992, they were treated with contumely by the Irish Government representatives. Recently, Mr Ken Maginnis repeated this allegation and went so far as to say that proposals which they submitted were not even considered. As far as Mr Maginnis and his colleagues are concerned the blame for the collapse of the talks at that time lies fairly and squarely with the Irish Government side.
As far as I am aware these allegations have not been refuted. The absence of such refutation must give rise to the suspicion that they are true. If the allegations are true it is indeed a sad reflection on our efforts at peace and reconciliation if the allegations are false it is surely in the public interest that the record be put straight by those in a position to do so. Yours, etc (Mr), Silehester Park, Glenageary, Co Dublin.
