Turmoil in Fianna Fáil

Sir,– It is an ill-wind that blows no good. It can be deduced from the Coveney confidence vote that Marc MacSharry – alone among members of the parties in power – has learned that ethics is knowing the difference between what one has a right to do and what is right to do. The hope that change is really afoot is rekindled. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Marc MacSharry has resigned the FF whip because he no longer recognises it as a “a democratic socialist republican party of and for the people”.

The rest of us have not recognised it as such for a number of decades. – Yours, etc,

RORY J WHELAN,

Drogheda,
