Sir, – I read the article (“Metal cage makes popular bathing spot look like a maximum security prison”, Denis McClean, March 14th) with horror. It is beyond comprehension how far our local authorities can go in the name of “health and safety” and “political correctness”.
Having grown up in Tramore and still a frequent visitor I am very disappointed to see what our representatives have managed to impose on this most beautiful bathing area.
The point very well made by your correspondent regarding the issue of teenagers now diving off the perches on the surrounding cliffs, is a very likely outcome and the local authorities will have to shoulder the blame for any resulting injuries.
I would request the authorities to re-think this new structure and to come to their senses and restore the bathing area to its normal condition. – Yours, etc,
GERRY GILLIGAN,
Coolmine Woods,
