Madam, - The decision of the Ulster Council of the GAA to transfer the Ulster final from Clones, Co Monaghan, to Croke Park is a most retrograde step.
For over 50 years the final at Clones was a distinctive part of the Ulster sporting culture. Now, in the interests of commercialism, it is being transferred to Dublin.
For years the GAA has pleaded the cause of rural Ireland. However, this decision strikes a blow against regional identity and local cultures. - Yours, etc.,
PATRICK SHAFFREY, Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1.
