A chara, - I wish to draw attention to the fact that the major political parties saw fit to distribute election literature throughout this entire county of Kerry, including the Gaeltacht, in English only.

I have noticed as much in glancing over the various colourful and professionally designed missives which solicit votes in north and south Kerry. Alas, Fianna Fail or Fine Gael or Sinn Fein is as much Irish as I find printed on any of them!

This is a denigration of citizenship. Irish is one of the elder literary languages of Europe, an official language of the slate, and the language of choice of many of its citizens.

Cuir san aireamh go bhfuil beagnach mile scolaire ag fail a gcuid oideachais tri Ghaeilge sa Chonlae, lasmuigh den Ghaeltacht fein. Sin mile go leith teaghlach, tri mhile vota. Ni mise an taon tuismitheoir ar mhaith leis go bhfeicfeadh a phaisti go bhfuil a hionad coir ag teanga shinsearach na tire. Is i an bhileog toghchanaiochla dhatheangach an bealach is eifeachtai chuige sin sa chas seo.
