A Chara, - I am due to graduate from Trinity College, Dublin this year. Like all other graduates of Trinity, and those who will be graduating from the National University of Ireland, I have the option of voting in the Seanad Éireann elections. I declined this vote as I find it both undemocratic and unrepresentative of the Irish people.
Why should those who happen to attend certain universities have a vote, while those who attend other universities, or those who don't attend a college at all, do not?
I call on all those who will be posed this year with the option of having a vote in Seanad elections to decline in protest, and I move for this undemocratic vote to be abolished.
