Madam, - Last Saturday hundreds of young gymnasts, together with their parents, friends and coaches, attended the National Novice Gymnasts Finals at the ESB National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.
Young, super-fit gymnasts performed a dazzling display with amazing skill and agility. It was wonderful to witness the emergence of such talent from all over Ireland. The competition lasted over five hours and many participants had travelled since early morning.
When hunger called, ironically, another colourful display was on offer, this time from the shop at the arena. It was full of chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks and crisps, but there was not a yogurt, sandwich, bowl of soup or piece of fruit in sight.
When will we stop encouraging obesity and start in earnest to provide healthy options? - Yours, etc,
