Sir, - Dr William Reville states: `If the universe always existed we would now have entropic doom" (The Irish Times, January 12th). He justifies this statement on the basis of the laws of thermodynamics. But the laws of thermodynamics assume a finite universe to begin with. They cannot therefore be used to prove the finite nature of the universe. - Yours, etc.,
