Sir, – At this time of austerity and reduction of public services, I feel it is important to recognise and appreciate what has for me been an extraordinary service, that of the public library.
I joined Blackrock library in Dublin in 1977; since then I have been the grateful recipient of an outstanding service. Staff are extremely well read, provide excellent advice when requested and make sterling efforts to source books not on the shelves. Reservations lead to a phone call when the item becomes available.
At this time when every public service is quite properly under the most rigorous scrutiny, hats off and high praise to all staff in the public library service. – Yours, etc,
