Madam, - The range of statistics relayed to your readers over the past week with regard to the "feeder schools" for entry to the main universities is indeed interesting. However, I would like to point out that in my experience as co-ordinator of the Leaving Cert Applied programme in a North Dublin community school, many of the past pupils whom I meet or hear of regularly are now the young Irish entrepreneurs of the next generation. With well-earned results combined with follow-on involvement in apprenticeships and courses in further education, many of them have become both personally and economically very successful.
Let's try to ensure that the "big picture" is relayed, rather than raw statistics which appeal to only a portion of your readers. - Yours, etc.,
CATHERINE GRALTON, Seabury Lane, Malahide, Co Dublin.
