Sir, – Now that the bad weather has arrived, I expect to have to listen to endless advice from the Automobile Association, the Garda, RTÉ and countless others not to “make any unnecessary journeys”. Every time I hear this I conjure up images of the people of Ireland travelling aimlessly in cars around the country.
What on earth is an unnecessary journey? Is driving to work necessary? Is driving to the supermarket necessary? Can the people of Ireland not be trusted to make their own rational decisions regarding their own safety? – Yours, etc,
