Unsigned letters

A chara, – Adrian Mullowney (December 16th) rightly questions the practice of unsigned letters being sent from our public bodies. I know many excellent and hard-working public servants and I feel this practice does them a disservice.

I have noted an even more unsettling practice within the HSE. Not only are letters routinely sent from the “Appointments Office” but in my area they are often signed by the “Appointments Office”.

Apart from the unsettling notion that my local hospital may have become sentient, the result is that I have no person to whom I can direct a comment or query on, say, a decision to remove someone from the waiting list. This makes the task of advocating for the patient much more difficult.

A simple solution would be to have a designated person to answer such queries and to include their contact details in such letters. – Is mise,
