JIM JACKMAN,
Sir, - As an ardent GAA supporter who has not missed a Cork-Kerry match in 45 years and who has supported Kerry in their All-Ireland Finals I must express my disgust at the behaviour of the Kerry fans and some of the Kerry players in Croke Park last Sunday.
Sitting in the lower deck of the Hogan stand, surrounded by Kerry fans, I had never in my life seen or heard such naked venom and hostility directed at any player as was directed at Colin Corkery. From the moment he missed his first attempt at a score he was abused and ridiculed for his physical appearance. Vile filthy language was directed at him from all around me - much to my embarrassment, as I was accompanied by my young grandson.
Cork-Kerry matches have always been played with the most intense rivalry but with honest sportsmanship and nothing but good honest banter between the opposing supporters. What I witnessed last Sunday would certainly make me think twice about attending the final and I certainly would not be supporting Kerry. I should be ashamed to be described as a Kerry supporter, just as I was ashamed of the small few Cork supporters who hurled missiles on to the pitch. I sincerely hope that GAA matches are not going the way of some English soccer matches. - Yours, etc.,
J. BUCKLEY,
Rochestown,
Cork.

Sir, - I attended the Dublin-Donegal quarter-final replay in Croke Park as a "Dubs" supporter.
I now have some understanding why there is such antipathy towards Dubliners. The booing and general lack of dignity and respect displayed to the visiting team and supporters was pitiful.
Having talked to others who expressed similar opinions, I apologise on their behalf for this childish behaviour. - Yours, etc.,
JIM JACKMAN,
Castleknock,
Dublin 15.
