A chara, – The dictionary at my school many years ago included a small list of abbreviations on which we were tested for comprehension; SOS, RSVP that sort of thing. Lately your paper shows how dependent we have become on such abbreviations and their offspring, acronyms. Nphet, Gsoc, Niac, Hiqa and many others now all appear in headlines.
When did abbreviations become words? Will GUBU someday resurface as mere Gubu?
