Madam, - Your edition of April 13th reported that a judge in Texas who halted an execution because the inmate was mentally ill had agreed to force the man to take anti-psychotic medication so he can be put to death.

The next day's edition carried an article by James C Kenny, the US ambassador to Ireland, which stated among other things that "US policy does not allow for the torture of prisoners: not in law enforcement, intelligence or military operations".
