US perspectives on world news

Madam, - As an American visiting Ireland, I tried the Irish Independent. Like gravy - sweet, warm and easy on the emotions. Then I read The Irish Times - real meat, something on which the brain can get nourishment. But the letter headed "US perspectives on world news" (August 7th) is a dose of liberal drivel. God, do they never stop?

A few comments: We know that George Bush is a locker-room wise guy, but the liberals backed him up to the hilt going to war - and they continue to support the war effort.

With regard to "right-wing radio", this is a blip on the radar screen of media in the US. Newspapers, magazines, network and local TV are heavily liberally oriented.

As for the administration "owning" all three branches of government, why, the US is a democracy. The people voted to have it that way - for a while. The liberals controlled the political, social and cultural agenda of the US for over 50 solid (or soiled)years - 1932 to 1982 - and had it again under that low life Bill Clinton. Our society has slowly moved to the right to escape the corrosive effects of policies that are anathema to our basic understandings of right and wrong - everything from the mundane to the extreme: no mention of Christmas in schools, no more Christmas cards (now "holiday" cards), perversion and pornography in prime time television, etc, etc. The reason that the Republicans are in power is not that they are that smart (I am one), but that they believe in individual responsibility, not community responsibility.

Liberals have had control for so long that they believe it is their right to control the US. However, their policies have caused millions of people with a social conscience to avoid the polls or to vote against the Democrats, who have abandoned common decency while embracing the most bizarre positions lacking in common sense or cohesion. They have lost their way. It is not that the "neo-cons" have won.

This is the first letter that I have written to the media. The nonsense in the above mentioned letter was too much for me. Now, time to leave the internet café to collect the wife and daughter. - Yours, etc,
