Sir, - Your edition of April 27th reported that the US Senate had confirmed Dr Richard Haass as the administration's "point man" on the peace process in the North. You also state that Dr Haass will be ranked as an ambassador.
Since the United States appoints only one ambassador to each country, and as we already have a US ambassador in Dublin, it seems that the six-county area is now being recognised as a foreign country.
Is this what the Good Friday Agreement was meant to achieve? - Yours, etc.,
John O'Halloran, Bantry Road, Dublin 9.
