Madam, - CIÉ is to build a new terminus for long-distance buses, to be located on the east side of Connolly Station, a healthy walk from the planned docklands Luas line and at least a kilometre from O'Connell Street ( The Irish Times, December 30th).
Wouldn't it be great if passengers arriving at the city's bus stations could use their tickets to get onto the Luas, or even onto CIE's Dart services from Connolly to Tara Street and elsewhere, to reach their eventual destinations?
Another thought: why do the long-distance buses have to battle their way along grid-locked streets to reach the city centre? Why don't some of them terminate at a convenient rail station, say at Adamstown, Blanchardstown or (soon) the Metro at Lissenhall to let passengers take the faster, rail option into the city centre - helping, incidentally, to un-clog the streets?
Dublin Transport Authority, please note. - Yours, etc,
MICHAEL BOYLE, Butterfield Drive, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14.
