Madam, - Exams are like money. Grade inflation and counterfeit success destroys their currency. Thus you could hardly be more mistaken when you write (August 16th) that the introduction of project work in history and geography "has helped to raise standards and reduce failure rates". The only thing that makes any exam worth sitting is the failure rate and as that drops towards zero so an exam becomes worthless. - Yours, etc,
